Dog Training
From puppy training to basic and advanced obedience, house training and behavior support: reward-based dog training that you work through together with us.
Dog training is more than teaching commands: it is about learning the rules of living safely at home and outside, through clear communication between the dog and its owner. At Hause of İstanbul we train with rewards and guidance, and instead of punishment we prefer to show the dog what it did right. We involve the owner in the process too, because a learned behavior only lasts when it continues in everyday life.
What do we help with?
The topics owners bring us most often are house training, biting and chewing, jumping up at people, eating food off the ground, unnecessary barking, pulling on the lead, irregular feeding, and tense behavior towards other dogs or people. We first look at why the dog behaves this way, and the plan is built around the dog’s age, breed and living conditions. For a lasting result it is often not only the dog’s habits but also the owner’s that change, which is why working with a trainer matters.
When should training start?
There is no need to wait for the dog to grow up. Puppies are very receptive to learning, what they experience in the first months shapes their adult behavior, and behavior specialists also stress that the first three months are the most important period for socialization. Our recommendation is to start training once the puppy is home, at around 2–3 months of age. If your dog is older than six months it is not too late: you can start without worry and without losing time. Do remember to follow your veterinarian’s advice on vaccinations and health.
Our training program
For puppies and their owners we run the Growing Together Program. It lasts between 2 and 5 months: while the puppy is trained step by step, you learn how to guide your own dog, and the work starts at the basic levels. If you would like to work for longer you can continue with the advanced program. You can keep training at the center until the dog is an adult and, if you wish, go on to the BH exam, followed by disciplines such as SchH, Agility or Frisbee.
For details, see Puppy Training Program and Puppy Training.
What happens at the center?
- You can follow the training process and see what is done in the sessions.
- Your dog works alongside other dogs and gets the chance to socialize; any tense behavior is worked on.
- You can get to know dog sports and keep them up as an enjoyable hobby.
Our approach
Every dog is different: breed, age, background and living conditions change how training is set up. Not every dog suits every environment or every job; for example, not every dog can be trained as a protection dog, and not every breed is right for a first-time owner. Consistency, simple communication and patience matter most: when the rules do not change during training, it is easier for the dog to understand what is asked.
