Obedience Training

Basic and advanced obedience training: leash walking, sit, down, stay and come, with reward- and play-based work that involves the owner.

Obedience Training

Basic and advanced obedience training teaches the skills that make everyday life with your dog easier: walking on the leash without pulling, coming when called, sitting and waiting where asked. At Hause of İstanbul we teach this with reward- and play-based methods, with you involved in the process.

Why obedience training?

Obedience is less about your dog listening to you and more about understanding each other. As your dog learns what you expect, and as you learn to read their language and body language, communication grows stronger. That is the basis for a safer and more enjoyable life at home, on the street and in crowded places.

Theory

At the start of training we talk about what a dog is and what they need:

  • A dog’s care and feeding needs
  • Toilet training and care
  • Creating motivation through food and play drive
  • Body language, the dog’s and yours
  • Box (crate) training
  • Noticing and preventing behavior problems early

Practice

We turn theory into practice:

  • Walking with you on the leash without pulling
  • Heel, sit, down, stay and come
  • Taking requested positions; learning “release” and “no”
  • Approaches to habits such as eating from the ground and unnecessary barking
  • Learning to play: play is an important part of motivation and bonding
  • Working in crowded and distracting places to build confidence

We also work through the equipment used in training and how to use it correctly. If we see uncontrolled behavior or a more serious problem such as shyness or aggression in your dog, we will say so openly and plan the work around your dog’s situation.

The process

Every dog progresses at a different pace. Short, regular sessions are more productive than long, tiring ones, so we count the small repetitions you do at home as part of the program. See Getting Started with Training for where to start at your dog’s age.

Frequently asked questions

Do you use rewards in training?
Yes. We work with reward- and play-based methods; food and play drive are used for motivation.
Can my dog be trained if they are shy or aggressive?
We talk openly with you about such situations and plan around your dog. Please get in touch for details.
Do I need to practice at home as well?
Yes. Short, regular repetitions are more productive than long sessions, so we count the small practice you do at home as part of the program.
